I’m watching Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and oh my GOD I need a good brisket sandwich with some nice hot barbecue sauce right now. And I’d like to try bison ribs with a blueberry barbecue sauce. Mmmmm. But the brisket though.

What happens when you give six species of monkey a different musical synthesizer?

Monkeys + Synthesizers is a project where 6 different spieces of monkeys (and some others) were given different synthesizers. Do monkeys like music and do they enjoy creating music?

Humans is the only species on earth that actually compose music. Most birds and some mammals make beautiful sounds, but primarily to scare others away — or to get laid. The project explores if other primates can make music.

Since the synthesizers was invented, the musicians have been asked “Is this really making music? You just press a button and out comes music, right?” Well… you do press buttons, twist knobs and faders, but there are endless ways of doing this. That is why the synthesizer probably is the greatest musical instrument in history. A great example of human ingenuity and engineering — something that makes us different from the monkeys.

This will be supported by preventing spectators from wearing clothing prominently displaying competing brands, or from entering the exclusion zone with unofficial snack and beverage choices. Within the Zone, the world’s biggest McDonald’s will be the only branded food outlet, and Visa will be the only payment card accepted.

The increased presence of the security state in England here dovetails with business influence to carve out a new corporate geography for the purposes of marketing. This spatial strategy is a neoliberal twist on the historic creation of colonial states administrated by businesses (consider the historic case of Rhodesia). Of course, police measures designed to restrict one form of personal expression can also just as easily restrict others, so it would hardly be surprising to see anti-corporate clothing forbidden in a similar manner to wearing the wrong brand’s clothing. Nevertheless, it seems to be an ironic twist that wearing corporate, rather than political, imagery and messaging is the expressly forbidden and subversive act within these exclusion zones.

It is through this neocolonialism at the urban scale that we see, utterly exposed, the political nature of economic practice. Corporations compete for spatial monopolies through reconfigured property arrangements, both with and without the help of the state, with purportedly fundamental liberal rights trampled on in the process.

I wish I could come up.with some decent music tonight, but I guess it’s not meant to be. Instead, I have tuned to a variety of open tunings and tried to make the chords sound without touching the strings. There are some cool effects to be had, especially with flanger and delay.

I wish I had a usb cable for my phone because I need to get the Led Zeppelin discography from my computer to my phone so I can jam to Led Zeppelin II on my way to and from school. (Also III and Physical Graffiti. IV is great too, but most songs on that get overplayed on classic rock radio.)
